Project Shipping Facility Development
Challenge
The world’s largest baker needed a large shipping facility in a central location, rather than several facilities in smaller locations. However large sites were rare in Queens, so Bimbo acquired a site in Maspeth, New York, that required huge modifications and upgrades to meet their operational needs.
Solution
ARA converted an 80,000 sq. ft. distribution facility from a rundown shipping hub to a specialized facility. All dock edges were rebuilt, with 90 transit door openings, and existing grades changed to accommodate specialized delivery trucks. The site was completely rebuilt including grading, concrete, and asphalt. The building was gutted and received new mechanical systems and finishes. And several structural transformations were required, which made it a more challenging build-to-suit project. By working closely with the architects, landlord, and the BBU Group, this state-of-the-art facility was completed as planned and on schedule.
